Weekend Projects Can Boost Home Values……. You don’t need to spend a fortune on extensive remodeling projects in order to increase the value of your home. In fact, real estate experts say your best bet is to invest a little “sweat equity” into a series of small weekend jobs – costing $300 or less – that boost your home’s appeal and eliminate buyers’ biggest objections. Whether you are thinking of selling in the near future or simply want to protect your investment, here are some quick and inexpensive ways to boost the value of your home: • Clear the clutter. The first step in any home improvement project should be to remove any clutter in the area. If you haven’t used an item in the past year, you may want to consider selling or donating it. If you just can’t part with some unused items, try to find storage space in the attic or basement. • Give kitchen cabinets a facelift. You don’t have to replace cabinets in order to achieve a fresh, new look. All you really need to do is apply a coat of paint or stain and add updated hardware to kitchen cabinets. You can also update your bathroom in the same manner by replacing towel racks and other decorative hardware. • Paint, paint, paint. Paint is one of the easiest and cheapest things you can do to freshen up your home. Experts advise, however, to stick with light, neutral hues. If you do decide to use color, opt for one or two muted tones and make sure colors flow from room to room. • Increase curb appeal. Take an objective look at your home from the road. How can your property make a better first impression? Spend a weekend cleaning windows and power-washing your driveway, deck and exterior of your home (as needed). Trim trees and shrubs. Get rid of lawn ornaments, toys, leaves, and debris from the yard, as well as any tools or other equipment that may be cluttering up the area. Potted flowers by the front door or flowering plants along the walk also serve to enhance the property’s appeal. Call me for more ideas on getting your home show ready.
