REAL ESTATE QUESTION & ANSWER

Q: I know my homeowners insurance will protect my interests against fire, theft and natural disasters, but what about liability? How do I know if I have enough coverage?

A: To determine how much liability coverage is enough, you’ll need to assess how much risk you have. For many people, the coverage included with their regular homeowners policy is enough. But in some situations, you may want more. Some common reasons to get more coverage include:

You own a swimming pool. Reduce your risk by enclosing your pool with a fence and locking gate. Remember that even when everyone is keeping “safety first” in mind, accidents can happen.

You own a dog. No matter what breed, dogs can bite. However, if you own certain breeds, you may need additional coverage.

You frequently have parties. If you regularly host social events, the risk of someone getting hurt on your property can increase.

When you’re trying to decide if you need additional coverage, it pays to consult with a professional insurance agent. And when you’re ready to buy or sell a home, turn to me. As your trusted real estate professional, I’m here to help you.
